Blue Whales in Blue Water
A fortunate few enjoy the unique opportunity to come face to face with the world's largest animal. We offer two unique opportunities to swim and snorkel with blue whales, either in the waters of San Diego's Mission Bay or in the clear oceanic waters off the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
In California, participants are immersed in an annual migration that provides daily opportunities to encounter full-grown blue whales that can reach lengths of 90 feet and weigh 100 tons. During this time, the same waters also teem with finbacks, minke and humpback whales, creating even more chances for amazing encounters.
Even more memorable experiences await in clear oceanic waters off the southern coast of Sri Lanka. During mating and calving season, blue whales come close to the island's shore. The BigAnimals team has contracted with one of the region's premier day boats, which provides private charters for the group, spending full days on the water to maximize encounter opportunities. During this season, super pods of sperm whales are sometimes found in the same waters, creating yet another chance for incredible adventure.
