Special Caradonna packages put divers first at two of Cozumel's premier beach resorts
Scuba divers put Cozumel on the tourism map. Long before the first cruise ship docked, wetsuits hung on hotel balconies and happy hour conversations were dominated by the day's underwater adventures. These days, the island attracts a broader segment of the vacationing public, but this growing popularity hasn't consigned divers to the status of second-class citizens. In fact, two of the island's premier all-inclusive resorts recently partnered with Pro Dive Mexico to create special packages and rates just for divers.
Allegro Cozumel
The location alone has made the Allegro a favorite with divers. The property is set on the island's uncrowded southwest coast, just a short boat ride away from favorite sites on the Palancar and Colombia reef systems. Equally appealing are the all-inclusive packages that deliver a lot of value for the dollar. Allegro fronts San Francisco Beach, which is one of the island's best, and the resort offers a wide range of land and water activities and amenities. Four specialty restaurants provide dining diversity, four individual pools go from quiet time to waterpark fun, and the libations are always on the house at five unique bars. There are sports and entertainment programs for all ages, and an on-site spa if relaxation is the goal. A property-wide renovation was completed in the fall of 2017, giving rooms a fresh new look, with updated amenities such as flat-screen televisions and media centers. In short, Allegro provides everything you'd expect from a first-class Caribbean all-inclusive. And then there are the extras that put divers first.
The Ultimate Dive Experience
By booking through Caradonna, divers and dive groups can get special rates on Allegro's Ultimate Dive Experience package. For starters, this upgrades participants to a Superior Premium room, and puts them close to the beach and the dive center, with proprietary check-in service. A dedicated dive concierge is on call to help with scheduling and logistics, and room balconies are fitted with drying racks for wetsuits and other personal items—though there are also complementary gear storage lockers at the dive center. The room upgrade comes with additional perks such as preferential à la carte restaurant reservations, exclusive access to the ocean-view Santa Rosa Lounge and its adjacent pool, complimentary afternoon snacks and a self-service bar. The package includes a one-tank dive per day, with free Nitrox if qualified, and discounts on apparel and other retail items at the dive shop, which is managed by Pro Dive Mexico. Boats depart four times daily at 8 and 10 am, and 1 and 3 pm, allowing divers’ maximum flexibility in their vacation schedule. Participants wanting more bottom time can add additional dives at a special reduced rate.
Occidental Cozumel
Occidental is the sister property to Allegro Cozumel and also located on San Francisco beach, a quarter mile to the south. The resort's dive shop and main pool deck sit close to the water, while guest rooms are sequestered a short walk inland within a private nature preserve. This setting is quieter and lower-key than the scene at Allegro, featuring landscaped courtyards, fountains and traditional hacienda-style villas with garden-view patios and balconies. The property underwent a series of room updates and upgrades in the fall of 2016, which included the addition of a new specialty seafood restaurant. In all, guests have seven premium restaurants to choose from. Booking at the Royal Level adds additional luxuries and services such as free WiFi, exclusive access to La Carreta restaurant, in-room hydro massage tubs, private pool and personal concierge services.
